About
Stefan Turkula, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist. Dr. Turkula focuses on surgical and non-surgical management of knee, shoulder, hip, and elbow injuries and disorders. He has advanced training and technical expertise in complex arthroscopic techniques, cartilage/meniscus restoration, joint preservation, shoulder replacement, and knee replacement. He has served as a team physician in the NHL, the MLB, and NCAA. Dr. Turkula is a former national champion freestyle skier and remains active as a team physician with the US Ski and Snowboard Team.
Dr. Turkula earned his undergraduate bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Utah where he also played football and lacrosse. He then earned his medical doctorate (MD) at Drexel University College of Medicine and completed a five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at Cooper University Hospital, one of the busiest level 1 trauma centers on the east coast, where he developed expertise in complex fracture management. After residency, Dr. Turkula completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder fellowship at the University of Minnesota and TRIA Orthopaedic Center. During fellowship he participated in medical and surgical management for the X-Games, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, University of Minnesota, and Gustavus Adolphus College. Currently, Dr. Turkula continues to pursue academic interests, research, and education through various national and local societies.
